Yet nothing as characteristic. No other president would have dared – truly, no former commander would have imagined – independently wrecking large sections of the executive mansion to build a palace-inspired entertainment space, with the active collaboration of multiple America's wealthiest, nearly all of which conduct transactions with federal agencies.

As disorienting as it is to watch the chief executive attempt to overturn the traditional concept regarding democracy and replace it with its complete opposite, there exists a significant segment of Americans who wouldn't consider it entirely new. That is those of us – within elder demographics close to half – who were educated as conventional Protestant believers.
We have observed across decades while conservative evangelical congregations transformed the Christ we grew up with into exactly the opposite of who we understood him to be. Fundamentally, they converted a persona of affection into a figure of hate who approves exactly the harshness that he criticized in scripture; this has happened more gradually, over decades instead of months, yet it remains disconcerting through similar means, a bewildering emotional blow for many of us.
A Toxic Christianity Establishes Itself
